A newly developed partnership with Trees New York  helped students take action to create more climate resilient schools and communities by planting trees on their school grounds. Students learned that trees provide shade and cool City neighborhoods that are particularly vulnerable to the urban heat island effect. They also learned about tree stewardship techniques needed to keep young tree seedlings healthy, especially during the hot summer months. In the spring of 2020 a programming strategy was devised that led to the creation of these 10 short videos. Topics include street tree benefits, identification, care and how street trees planted in neighborhoods with little greenery can alleviate the urban heat island effect.
